Official Selection in SmartFilms 2022

The short film Over Canvas, written and directed by Álvaro Jiménez and made by the production house Piranga Films, has been announced as part of the official selection in the SmartFilms® 2022 festival. The event will take place from September 6 to 12 at Bogotá, Colombia with the presence of personalities from the film industry such as actress Maggie Civantos (Vis a vis), screenwriter Roberto Bentivegna (House of Gucci) and the actress Nadia de Santiago (Las chicas del cable).

SmartFilms® is the first film festival carried out through mobile devices in Colombia, Mexico, Paraguay, Spain and its format is unique in the world. His commitment to the democratization of filmmaking has led to the emergence of new filmmakers in an increasingly large and competitive market. The framework of the festival includes the exhibitions of the shorts in competition, forums, conversations, awards, among others. A festival that brings together all the people related to cinema, innovation, technology and advertising to build meeting spaces and growth of the creative industries.

The short film shows the story of Nidia, a waitress in a restaurant in the center of Bogotá, and Carlos, a painter who sells his paintings a couple of streets away. They don’t know each other but they have two things in common: they are migrants from the Colombian Pacific and they came to the capital in search of opportunities. A love story that explores the loneliness of the migrant in the big city.
